How We Mine It
Ruby is extracted from the marble and metamorphic host rock of the Hunza and Nagar valleys, typically through small-scale tunneling and vein mining rather than large mechanized operations. This careful approach reflects both the delicate nature of gem-bearing rock and the value of preserving stone integrity during extraction.
Once removed from the host rock, rubies are hand-sorted and graded by color and clarity on-site before being prepared for the international gem trade — a process where careful handling directly protects the stone’s commercial value.
We also emphasize responsible resource management, focusing on reducing waste, improving recovery rates, and ensuring safe handling of materials throughout the processing chain.
